General Information
It is a popular tropical
fruit, with a very sweet flavor, and has many good properties that
Costa Rican natives call it “the fruit of the good health tree”.
It is also known as: zapote melon, mamao, naimi, capaídso, bomba
fruit, lechosa, mamón, nampucha, pucha y paque. It has an oval
shape, yellowish skin, black seeds and reddish pulp. Its
particular taste is very appreciated when making desserts, fruit
juices and yogurts.
Among some of its properties
are:

Low in calories and rich in
nutrients such as vitamin C, criptoxantine, licopene, phytoene,
iron, magnesium and zinc.

Contains an enzyme called
papaine which has analgesic and digestive characteristics

Acts as a soft laxative

Speeds up internal and
external cicatrisation (i.e. gastric ulcers) and helps to
eliminate internal parasites

Eases tanning due the great
amount of retinine
Nutritional
information
Half a papaya (aprox 150
g) supplies 150% of the daily requirement of vitamin C (it
outcomes oranges and lemons). Its orange coloring tells us
that it’s rich in beta carotenes. It contains nutrients such
as vitamin A, B and C, potassium, magnesium, fiber, folic
acidd and short amounts of calcium and iron.
